CALLING MASTER BAKERS AND BAKING LOVERS OF ALL AGES – Get cracking those eggs and show us your best traditional Honey Cake baking.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Submissions:<\/strong> We are running the competition as part of our BEE FEST – held at the Westbury art centre on Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th of July<\/strong> (more details here<\/a>) and welcome cake submissions on either day, with a final deadline at 1 PM on Sunday. Our panel of judges will commence taste-testing all creations at 2 PM and finally crown our baking king or queen at 3 PM on Sunday the 28th, as part of our award ceremony!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be in with a chance there are a few rules for you to follow:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. All cakes must follow our traditional Honey Cake recipe as seen below. (No extra flavouring is allowed!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Our judges are looking for a traditional look and feel. Leave it un-decorated and present it dome up and un-sliced.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Our judges will be looking at Appearance, Uniformity, Moistness, Texture, Aroma and Flavour.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Is there a prize?<\/strong> Yes! – Not only is there honey up for grabs (extracted from our hives in July this year). You are also entering with a chance of winning the honorary title of Westbury bee-group’s: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    HONEY CAKE RECIPE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    INGREDIENTS:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • 5 oz \/ 140g butter<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 6 oz \/ 170g clear honey<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 1 tablespoon water<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 4 oz \/ 115g soft brown sugar<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 2 eggs<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 7 oz \/ 200g self-raising flour<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      METHOD:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

      Place BUTTER, SUGAR, HONEY and WATER into a saucepan and heat until the fat has melted, stirring all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Remove the pan from the heat when the fat is melted. Allow it to cool down to blood temperature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Beat in the EGGS gradually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Add sieved FLOUR and mix until it is smooth. Do not over mix!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Pour mixture into a greased\/ lined 7″ cake tin. Bake for 1 hour, or until the cake has risen and is firm to the touch, in a conventional oven: 180\u00b0C \/ 350\u00b0F or a fan oven: 160\u00b0C \/ 320\u00b0F or Gas mark 4.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
